We will help you fill this out, or better yet, we will complete it for you! The information is kept confidential and protected. There is no cost for this program and the registration can be cancelled at any time.
The next step is a verification from the Police Department to make sure that you are willing to participate. Once this registration is confirmed, you receive the PPD SafeCam window decal for your business or home. This allows you to display that your are a partner in protecting our city.
In the future, there might be a request by the Philadelphia police to provide a copy of some of the captured video to assist in an investigation.
There have been numerous cases in the last few years where surveillance videos from the local businesses and private citizens have helped the local law enforcement efforts to protect the citizens of Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia police department is finding that the available surveillance video from businesses and private citizens helps their detectives solve crimes faster and successfully prosecute offenders. Additionally, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office uses surveillance video for prosecution, which is overwhelmingly from the businesses sector and private citizens of Philadelphia.
The success of video in assisting law enforcement has been so significant that Mayor Nutter has developed this new program called SafeCam which is subsidized by the Commerce Department . The purpose of SafeCam is to increase the number of available cameras that the police can use to monitor within neighborhood business corridors of Philadelphia. This new program with SafeCam allows the police to quickly access recorded surveillance video when needed. More cameras on the street will mean a safer city for the citizens of Philadelphia.
